FIRST TIMERS
Welcome all First Timers! Join OWAA Executive Director, Chez Chesak, as he leads the group in brief introductions, talks you through the event, and helps provide guidance to ensure your conference success.
OWAA IS TURNING 100!
- A Centennial "Time Capsule" For the duration of the conference, we'll fill a display case with OWAA's own historical artifacts. OWAA will bring the founding menu, an original OWAA watch and "PRESS" placard, the mysterious Mountain of Jade and more! But we also want YOUR meaningful keepsakes. Clips of first bylines, cover shots, old press badges, plane tickets from that unforgettable reporting trip, photos of push-up contests gone by. Together we hope the collection of these mementos will create a visual collage representing the last 100 years of outdoor communication. (All materials will be returned at the conclusion of conference, if you like, or you can donate them to our archives.) Our friends in Madison might even bring along some outdoor gear from that time period as well.
- OWAA Trivia Event Join trivia master Phil Bloom as he hosts a trivia competition that will test attendees' knowledge of the organization. There will be prizes!
- A Closing Night for the Ages In addition to a 1920's themed party to honor our forebears, we'll do our best to recreate the dinner menu OWAA's founders flipped over to write and sign the organization's original charter. When our eight founding members met at an Izaak Walton League luncheon in Chicago, they signed the back of their menu (and we'll have that very menu on display too). They had Cream of Asparagus, Argenteuil; Broiled Mignon of Beef, Melba and Stuff Tomato, Bressanne. Will we have those exact same menu items? Well, no... but, working with the catering company, we'll try our best to recreate it!
