Ann and Rob Simpson are both award-winning biology professors at Laurel Ridge Community College in Middletown, Virginia. Their easy-going teaching style has been described as relaxed and creative. Their background in teaching methods combined with photography skills has enabled thousands of students and workshop participants to learn how to take better pictures and experience lifelong enjoyment with their photography. A recent workshop participant commented that he learned more from the Simpsons in one day than he had in several photography classes that cost over a thousand dollars. As professional photographers, biologists, and authors, Ann and Rob are noted natural history experts having spent years involved with research and interpretation in the national parks and other natural areas of the world. They have written numerous books on national parks coast to coast that promote wise and proper use of natural habitats and environmental stewardship. In cooperation with American Park Network, they have led Canon “Photography in the Parks” workshops in major national parks including Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Yosemite, and Great Smokies. The Simpson's regularly lead international photography, birding, and natural history tours to many ecologically significant areas of the world including Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Madagascar, Trinidad and Tobago, Costa Rica, Belize, Panama, Ecuador, Galapagos Islands, Colombia, Peru, Chile, and Venezuela. Upcoming tours include Cuba, Madagascar, Brazil, Kenya/Tanzania, and Costa Rica. Long known for their stunning images of the natural world their work has been widely published in magazines such as National Geographic, Time Magazine, Virginia Wildlife, National Wildlife, and Ranger Rick as well as many calendars, postcards, and books. Their publications include Shenandoah Simply Beautiful, Born Wild in Shenandoah, Born Wild in the Smokies, and Smoky Mountain Babies. They have also written travel guides for the national parks including Pocket Guides to Yellowstone, Yosemite, and Sequoia and Kings Canyon. They are currently working on a series of wildflower books and a series of nature guides for Falcon Press on the national parks including Yellowstone, Yosemite.
