About me
Tom Oliver is a photographer, educator, and former wildlife biologist based in Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula. He leads small-group photography excursions, birding outings, and night sky experiences designed to help people slow down, observe more closely, and engage meaningfully with the natural world.
Drawing on a background in ecology and science education, his work emphasizes fieldcraft, ethical wildlife photography, and an understanding of landscapes shaped by both natural systems, seasonal change, and human impact. He is the author of The Keweenaw Aurora Guide and publishes the annual Keweenaw Phenology Calendar -- resources that reflect his focus on helping others anticipate, interpret, and photograph the rhythms of the region.
His approach centers on authenticity, creating images rooted in real experience, not just visual output.
