About me
Hunter Hartford McIntosh is a passionate conservationist and the President & CEO of The
Boat Company, a mission-driven luxury eco-cruise operation founded by his father, Michael
McIntosh, in 1979. From the start, The Boat Company was created to protect the Tongass
National Forest - the largest remaining temperate rainforest in the Northern Hemisphere -
through a model that blends advocacy, philanthropy, and immersive wilderness experiences in
Southeast Alaska.
Rooted in a lifelong connection to the natural world and inspired by the sea turtle nesting rituals
of his childhood on the beaches of Palm Beach, Florida, Hunter has dedicated his career to
protecting wild places and educating others about their importance. Under his leadership, The
Boat Company has become a leader in sustainable tourism and a strong voice for conservation
policy, hosting thousands of guests each season aboard its two vessels while advocating for
fisheries protections, forest preservation, and responsible public land use.
Hunter has testified before the U.S. Senate Energy & Natural Resources Committee, submitted
formal policy comments to the Secretaries of the Interior and Agriculture, and remains actively
engaged in fisheries and wildlife management issues in Southeast Alaska. He’s a frequent
speaker on nature-based tourism and environmental policy, with appearances at the World Green
Energy Symposium, The International Ecotourism Society, and ASTA’s Cruise West.
In 2011, he was named one of the “Top 25 Extraordinary Minds in Sales and Marketing” by the
Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International. His work has been recognized
by National Geographic Traveler, Travel Weekly, and other leaders in the travel and
sustainability sectors.
A trustee and director of the McIntosh Foundation, Hunter focuses his philanthropic efforts on
conservation, health, and education. He also served as the Mid-Atlantic Regional Director of
fundraising for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and remains a proud long-time donor.
In 2015, Hunter became a founding member of the Board of Directors of ClientEarth USA,
helping establish the American affiliate of the internationally renowned environmental law
organization. His deep experience in conservation, tourism, and environmental advocacy
contributed to laying the groundwork for ClientEarth’s expansion into the U.S. legal and policy
arena.
Hunter lives in the American Southeast with his wife Amber and their daughter Aspen and
continues to share his family’s legacy of stewardship—on the water, in the woods, and in the
policy arena.
