About me
Akiima Price is a nationally respected thought leader and practitioner advancing the emerging field of Restorative Park Engagement (RPE), a growing practice exploring how parks and nature can support communities impacted by poverty, violence, chronic stress, and disconnection.
Beginning her career as a U.S. Park Ranger with the National Park Service in 1993, Akiima has spent more than 30 years building community-rooted programs and partnerships at the intersection of parks, public health, justice, stewardship, and human development. Her work challenges traditional ideas of outdoor engagement by positioning parks not only as spaces for recreation but also as places for healing, intentional respite, and authentic human connection.
Through speaking, partnership-building, and field practice, Akiima is helping build Restorative Park Engagement into a national framework that expands the role parks can play in community wellbeing and the restoration of both people and place.
A Washington, D.C. native, Akiima co-founded Friends of Anacostia Park in 2018 and currently serves on the D.C. Commission on Climate Change & Resiliency.
